NYRR Volunteer Watch
Privacy and data use
Private-beta policy · effective September 28, 2026
What this service stores
- A random account identifier, your alert preferences, and whether alerts are paused.
- The browser-provided Web Push endpoint and encryption keys needed to send notifications.
- Operational records showing the matching alert and official NYRR link sent, plus whether delivery was accepted, displayed, opened, or rejected.
- The app saves your latest alert link on this device so you can reopen it. It removes that link on account deletion or the next app launch after 24 hours.
- Previously submitted in-app answers about whether an alert helped, including optional comments and anonymous-quote choices. The app now directs feedback to email instead.
- If you request an invitation by email, the operator may record your address with your single-use invitation. After redemption, that invitation is linked to your app account so the operator can issue and troubleshoot your code.
- Short-lived infrastructure logs used to diagnose failures. The application does not intentionally log push endpoints or account identifiers.
What it does not collect
The tester app does not ask you to enter an email address, name, NYRR password, NYRR account access, demographics, location, contacts, or payment information. Your email is not used as an alert destination or account login. The service does not use advertising trackers, sell data, or share personal data for marketing.
How the data is used
Data is used to match and send requested alerts, prevent duplicates, operate the private beta, and measure aggregate reliability. Invitation email addresses are used to issue and troubleshoot codes. Questions and feedback sent by email are handled in the operator’s inbox. “Accepted by a push provider” does not guarantee that a device displayed an alert.
Retention and deletion
Alert history is kept while your app account exists so the service does not send duplicates. Operational analytics may be retained in aggregate after they are no longer linked to an account. Use Delete my data in the app to remove the account, preferences, push subscriptions, sessions, linked alert history, and its redeemed invitation record from the live database. You can also disable alerts on all devices linked to the account.
Ask the operator to delete an unredeemed invitation record; that also invalidates its code. Earlier copies of deleted data may remain in regular or migration backups after removal from the live database; email the operator if you need those copies reviewed.
Service providers
The service runs on Render and uses the browser vendor’s Web Push infrastructure. The app and this page use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits in aggregate; it does not set cookies or identify individual visitors, and invitation codes are removed from the address before it loads. Opening an alert takes you to NYRR, whose own privacy terms then apply.
Independent project
This is an independent community beta and is not affiliated with or endorsed by New York Road Runners. For an invitation, support, or privacy question, email zane@zanytsl.com. Your message stays in the operator’s inbox; the address may also be recorded with an invitation as described above. Requesting an invitation or emailing for help does not sign you up for later feedback or blog messages.
